app store error "this item is being modified"

I'm having the same issue, bought OS X 10.7 on Saturday, waited 48 hours for the PDF to come through, now I can't redeem the code because of this error, I'm furious! Spoke to 2 advisors on live chat and they both said I just have to wait it out until it gets resolved. It could be 2 hour, could be 2 days, could be 2 weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if it was 2 years! Apple clearly aren't working on this and don't seem to care at all about resolving this issue. Not happy!!

It is now Tuesday, Dah-veed, and still nothing. Also, I'm sorry, but Apple's tech support lines and more importantly SALES lines are quite open over the weekend. If they are so eager to sell us product, should they not be as eager to provide it to us once we've paid?

In addition, we're talking about ELECTRONIC delivery, from a supposed world leader in technology. How in the world should that differ over a weekend? Unless Apples computers have become sentient and decide they should only work union hours...

Interesting. Nothing from anyone official at Apple in this thread...it's as if they so very much do not care, they simply can't be bothered even to regurgitate the dogmatic lines about this anymore.

But also interesting, I posted a response earlier this morning asking if anyone knew a more, shall we say, litigious route of protest...and my post was summarily deleted!! Way to go!! You can take our money, but you can't provide us our products. You can take down our posts, but you cannot silence us.

We are not asking for anything out of the ordinary - simply goods and services for payment rendered. That is the law.

How do we go about getting a refund? Ive had faster delivery of digital goods back in 1998 over dialup.

Do you think that is what they're hoping for? They don't actually want anyone to have Lion o Mountain Lion anymore, and forgot to take it off the system? So now they have all these people clamoring for a product they don't want to sell, and are just wearing us down until we cave, and go away?

Their stated policy is not to refund software purchases for any reason. Now, using the "logic" that they have steadfastly utilized when asked for a workaround, I would hazard a guess that they will NOT refund our money anyway - there must be NO workarounds. Nice, neat circle, huh?

Do you think Mr. Cook might have a solution if we asked him?

Frankly, I don't want a refund. I want delivery of the product I paid for. I need to upgrade my OS but I am neither willing nor able to upgrade all the way to Yosemite (it causes instability in a lot of software I use professionally). I refuse to back down on this. Apple needs to make it right.

This is EXACTLY the reason I would never personally buy ANY APPLE PRODUCT OR SERVICE. Unfortunately I have to use a macintosh at my work.

The only reason I tried to upgrade OS was because crucial programs said they wouldn't install or work with the OS version I had. ( which is complete BS because I know the same programs still work on on a completely outdated windows XP computer) Just another way APPLE screws and gets more money out of people who keep supporting their products - I dont know why people put up with them. I laugh when people buy an iphone 6 plus at $400 on a 2 year contract when half the android phones out are half the price and TWICE THE VALUE.

Did you know that apple tells you to buy THIER OWN apple display to show their cellphones off? if you dont buy the display then you cant showcase their phones. OH WELL, then people just see the samsungs and LG phones first and usually buy them! haha stupid apple!

I am having the same darn problem. I need to upgrade for my son to take an online class and have been trying since Tuesday of last week to get this done. Maddening. I have always loved Apple but am so irritated right now I may switch to PC.

Paid for OS X Lion on April 22 and still can't download it.Two hours on the phone with various techs, and all I could get from Apple were a bunch of incredible technical excuses. Incredible as in not very credible.

First they said it was because the product had to be prepared for the machine I was installing it on, and that this would take one to three days. So when I called three days later and I was still getting the same error message, they told me it was because it won't download when the OS used to download it is greater than Lion. So I booted from an install of Snow Leopard on another drive and got the same message. Seriously? Apple has spybots that know what OS is running on my machine and can prevent a file from downloading? I don't think the technology exists. I can download PC software on my Mac that won't install, but it still downloads.

My big question is: why would they lie? If there's a problem, can't they just admit it and fix it? I'm guessing that like most big corporations, they don't want to acknowledge their mistakes when fixing them will cost them money and possibly hurt their reputation.

I've been an Apple customer since 1986. All told my family and I have owned two desktop and 10 different Apple laptops, starting with the Mac Plus. I've never had issues with Apple customer service before, possibly because I'm good at servicing my own machines and rarely have had an issue I couldn't resolve on my own. This kind of service is not what I would expect from a company of Apple's stature.

So far as I am concerned, they've stolen my money!!!

I agree that the store should be fixed but if you are near an Apple retail store they can help you get the OS you need installed.

The tech's at the "Genius" bar weren't able to explain "why" the store was broken but at least they installed the OS and I was

able to move on to the next project. #lookingatPCs

HOW TO INSTALL APPLE OS UPGRADE:

Step 1) purchase a digital download copy from their website

Step 2) fail at trying to download digital software because apples app store is broken

Step 3) PHYSICALLY drive to an apple store and get them to install in person.

Sometimes i do the same thing when i fill up gas in my car, i drive up to the gas station, pay for 40$ worth of gas, no gas comes out so i just leave my car there and walk home and grab the lawnmower gas can and walk back up and fill my car up form another station, and then drive back home.

poweruser_art, I assume you needed to bring your computer to the store to have the techs install the OS, right? I'm not too keen on the idea of hauling my desktop over there so that I can wait on someone to install something I'm perfectly capable of installing myself, if only I could download it as was promised.
