Unable to log in the VPN

Hi, I'm running the latest OS X and Server app. I want to run a VPN, I tried to configure it, but I'm not able to log in it. the error message is: authentication failed.

I enabled three network users to log in the VPN and I'm one of those three users.

The OpenDirectory service is on.

The forwarding port in the internet router is open.

The internet router is also a DHCP server, but the IP address range is not overlapping with the range indicated in the VPN configuration.

What's the problem?

Thank you all

Are the Open Directory users authenticated to access VPN services?

Can you authenticate and verify their passwords with another service like filesharing or in the terminal on the server?

What do the ppp logs say as Linc states?

Which ports did you open in the router?

500, 1701 and 4500 for L2TP and 1723 for PPTP.
