Q: I hate this new Photos!

I had already spent hours multiple times to get all my photos sorted. I have traveled all over the world and have thousands of pics, also have Faces set up with those locations. Now, after this latest update, everything has totally changed and I am so angry I could scream or choke someone! What can I do to get the iPhoto back and get rid of this update?

Thanks for the help if there is any hope left.

Then use iPhoto - crazy to use software you do not like - and even crazier to move to a different system with all new and different software to avoid one program that you simply do not understand

iPhoto works fine - it is in your applications folder - you need version 9.6.1 - if you were not up do date when you upgraded to 10.10.3 or 10.10.4 see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

or just learn to use Photos - for the rest of your life you will fine that new things need new learning - and Photos is easy to learn and for most things is better than iPhoto - and this fall the El Captain upgrade promises to fix most of the few deficiencies so using iPhoto for 3 months is a logical and sane solution vs   moving to a totally foreign system what will have the same type of changes going forward

But you just go do what every you want -

I'm not a fan of the new Photos app either.  Obviously i still have iPhoto, but I've already added photos to my mac that are now in Photo.  I would imaging I can move them to iPhoto but not sure how to do it.  Any advice?!  And i'd like to use iPhoto as my default photo app for the time being.  I think i had to do this once before but how do I switch back to making iPhoto my default photo app.

    I appreciate the help!  Thanks!

select the photos in Photos an export to a desktop folder (file menu ==> export) and then import into iPhoto

I am really struggling with this update. I sell product on a venue that requires a white background. The old iPhoto was awesome. I cannot get this one to achieve the look that I could with the other. I am so frustrated as I have a deadline to meet and my photos suck!

It actually helps to read the answers - especially the "helpful" ones

Nothing to "get back" - iPhoto is in your applications folder - launch and use it - no reason in the world to use a program you hate

Your answer seems so simple BUT in reality is it really an answer?

iPhoto is in my applications folder. If I open it I get a message :  "In order to open iPhoto you need to update to the latest version. This version is not compatable with OSX Yosemite." "Download the latest version from the App Store." And of course it is unavailable. So??

AS posted hundreds (if not thousands) of times including several times in this very thread - Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

Sorry if I bent your delicate feelings, but I was just asking for information. My mistake for posting to this site as judging from previous snarky replies. My goal was to gain knowledge not bad manners.

I am also frustrated with the new Photo app.  I have read through all this forum to see if I could find a solution.  Iphoto is X'd out in my application folder so it will not open/run.  If I try moving it to the trash nothing happens.   I have gone to the app store and it is not listed.  I tried the link to unhide purchases and I have no hidden purchases (the option does not even show up).  I cannot update Iphoto as it is not in the app store.  I tried the link to fix this but I guess I didn't have an updated version of iPhoto running and iPhoto does not show up in purchases.   I don't see any other options from what has been suggested so far in this forum so any help would be much appreciated.

    thanks

I tried the link to fix this but I guess I didn't have an updated version of iPhoto running and iPhoto does not show up in purchases.

iPhoto will only show in your Purchase history, if it is associated with your AppleID at the AppStore. You should be seeing it there, if you bought iPhoto from the App Store, if iPhoto '11 came preinstalled on your Mac with MacOS X 10.7 or later and you accepted it to your Apple ID, or if you updated any iPhoto '11 version to iPhoto 9.4.5 or later. Updating beyond iPhoto 9.4.5 will also have associated your AppleID with iPhoto.  If none of this applies, because your iPhoto has not been iPhoto '11, or you did not buy it from the AppStore ornerier updated to an AppStore version, it is too late. Apple stopped selling iPhoto and you cannot buy a version, that could be updated to iPhoto 9.6.1.

This mac came with an older version of iPhoto installed.  I upgraded (with a disc) to iLife '11 a few years ago.  I still have the disc.  Should i try to install from that?

    thanks

The version on the iLife disk will probably be iPhoto 9.1 or similar and not run on Yosemite. The free updaters available from the Support page will allow  you to update up to version 9.4.3, which still is not compatible with Yosemite. The update to 9.6.1 is only available from the AppStore. Perhaps you can convince the AppStore support to provide a redeem code to download the update, if you can prove, that you bought the iLife '11 Disk from the Apple Store and have a convincing story, why you missed the free update to iPhoto 9.5.1, when it was available with MacOS X  10.9 Mavericks. I really don't know, if the AppStore Support will be willing to help. In some cases they have done it.

I hated iPhoto too. But everything I hated about iPhoto is EVEN WORSE in Photo. I try not to use it at all but I haven't worked out another way to get photos off my iPhone.
