Q: rMBP 2015 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network)

I can't seem to find out what is waking my Mac up so much. Battery life on standby is terrible. Snippet from running "syslog | grep -i "Wake reason"" through Terminal:

Can't seem to find out the issue via Google. I have extensively searched.

Appreciate any help.

P.S. this is a duplicate from rMBP 2015 10.10.3 Wake Reason: ARPT (Network). I do not know how it ended up in the OS X Mavericks section because I clearly remembered choosing Yosemite from the dropdown list. Anyhow, that one is closed and I would appreciate any help I can get from this section of the forum.

Thanks.

Adding my two cents here. Closing the lid on the 15" rMBP I bought three days ago and upgraded to El Kapitan and then my router's active sessions I see that my rMBP is establishing and renewing https:// sessions to Facebook 31.13.80.8:443 and Google 74.125.228.240:443 There was also a connection to a port 5223, which I am led to believe by google to be the port used by Apply Push Notification service.

So you must use these 2 accounts in your system preferences, right?

Actually the sessions were connected through Safari. But the point is the lid was closed but my Mac still spun up frequent sessions, then waking up on what seems to be the disconnect

    Oct  2 22:43:06 Jasons-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Wake reason: ?

Oct  2 22:43:06 Jasons-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: ARPT: 999.265368: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on Scan offload; Disconnect reason: Unknown

    Oct  2 22:43:06 Jasons-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: [HID] [ATC] AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)

Closing these tabs actually stopped the battery leaking with no wakes for the 20+ minutes I had my laptop's lid closed. If you find your MacBook is frequently spinning up sessions to sites you often browse, try closing those tabs in your browser and see if that helps.

I suspect that the problem actually comes from iCloud syncing my rMBP Safari with my iPhone. Will test and see if that is actually the case.

Yeah. I used to see a lot log related to the scan offload even though I don't know *** it is. Good to know one possible reason.

Another interesting thing I've found is that if you ever turn on the message forwarding function and you have unread messages in your phone, the sleeping mac would wake up and the wake reason is something like "ARPT: 114686.419938: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on TCP Data".

I have found a reason for my problem and maybe it helps others as well. In my case the wake reason was on excessive Wake. I found out, that once I entered my works wifi range the macbook would wake up and try to connect to the wifi. The problem is it somehow couldn't read the certificate from the keychain to authenticate to the wifi. This meant a modal window was open, prompting me to enter my password for the keychain. The open modal window is the reason the macbook doesn't go back to sleep or wakes up very often.

I think what we've learned from this thread is that there are many (mostly wifi) reasons why new macbooks don't sleep properly. I'm kinda ****** at Apple and their total silence on the topic in spite of the huge amount of evidence that there are many issues with sleep in the latest macbooks (and maybe older macbooks).

Does anyone from Apple read any of these threads? What is the point of us even discussing the issue if Apple has no interest in solving this problem or recognizing that it exists?

Thanks for your input. But I don't think mine is the same as yours. As your saying, " I found out, that once I entered my works wifi range the macbook would wake up and try to connect to the wifi.", I find it the same. What I mean is that I agree with you that Mac would wake itself up when it's been carried to a place where it detects a known wifi hotspot. But I never saw the modal window pop up as you've described.

Definitely. One user has talked to the Apple Store supervisor and offered him this post. I think they at least are aware of this issue.

My MBPR 2015 has the same problem, upgrading to OSX El Capitan doesn't help.

Turning of "wake on wifi connection" doesn't help.

I lost 20% battery overnight, here is the result of pmset -g stats:

    Sleep Count:687

    Dark Wake Count:675

    User Wake Count:15

Just turn off wifi before you put your mac sleep and pray and wait apple offers a fix...

I am also having the same issue with my 2015 MBP.

    Similar numbers too:

    Sleep Count:637

    Dark Wake Count:627

    User Wake Count:12

Last night I had 9% battery left, turned off the wifi, closed the lid, and when I got up this morning, I just got the screen that shows low battery.  So, while the Sleep counts didn't increase much if any last night, I still lost the last few % of battery I had left.  I do not have power nap enabled.

I can also tell you that my MBP worked perfectly until I upgraded to El Capitan.  That's when the "fun" started for me.

I started having this problem soon after upgrading to el capitan. With the following error:

Oct  8 20:16:54 plato kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: ARPT (Network)

Oct  8 20:16:54 plato kernel[0] <Notice>: ARPT: 1245.229147: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on excessive wake

This happened every minute or two. The battery would drain 40% overnight and laptop would be slightly warm in the morning.

I tried everything suggested in the web that I could find: disabled sharing, wake for network access, pmset changes, reinstalled el capitan on the existing install, reinstall after erasing the root partition. I was having the same problem even with a fresh install on a clean partition.

Disabling wifi before sleep fixed, but that was not an option to do every day. But, if there is a script or something that disables wifi on sleep that'd work.

I didn't have this problem on work network only in the home network. In the home network I have three SSID, Two of them are on the of type N (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) coming from a router running openwrt latest. The third is of type G from a second router used as an extender. It's running dd-wrt. For some reason connecting to the G network while putting the mac didn't cause the mac to wake up through out the night. Only 4-5 times due to the following error:

Oct  9 01:38:29 plato kernel[0] <Notice>: Wake reason: RTC (Alarm)

    Oct  9 01:38:29 plato kernel[0] <Notice>: [HID] [ATC] AppleDeviceManagementHIDEventService::processWakeReason Wake reason: Host (0x01)

So, I am planning to connect to the slower G network at home until there is a fix.

I have exactly same problem with u.  Have u find a solution about the ARPT(network) wake reason?

I have exactly same problem with u. My Early2015 RMBP wakes 3times in a minute during sleeping mode.

Can turn off wifi really address battery drain when sleep?

    Thanks
