Verizon Just told me my iMAC OSX 10.5.8 has an infection that will cost $200 to fix. Can I get rid of it another way for less?

It does not, Verizon have no clue what they are doing, do not follow their directions.

no I was putting in a new router and they diagnosed this remotely after sending 10 pings from google and getting a thread count
Ask them to tell exactly what the infection is, what is it's name?
That wasn't Verizon. It's a scam.
