Coming from Aperture and Lightroom 4, I installed Lightroom 6 (standalone) on my MacBook Pro Retina (2014, Yosemite). However, it won't launch. All I receive is the credit page and then the enigmatic message "Lightroom quit unexpectedly." Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions? Is it an Adobe or an Apple problem?

Adobe problem.
It's an Adobe problem. Crashing apps are always for the application vendor to fix.

I just bought Lightroom 6 from Amazon today. It won't run either on 10.10.3
The console error says:
2015-04-26 17:12:21.472 Adobe Lightroom[457:10494] Oops! An untagged string (Cannot create the required folder: /Users/ccAir/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/External Editor Presets.) got thrown far enough that we display it to the user. This shouldn't happen.

So Adobe has a problem looking down the wrong directory path.

I'm just trying to get a refund from Amazon right now. Clearly Apple screwed up something in this latest system update, who knows. Probably it will take till the next small 10.10 update till its fixed. There are others in a similar forum here with the same problem. Best of luck. lightroom 6 won't open in 10.10.3
Okay, thanks for the link. This is about LR6 CC, however, not the standalone version. Anyway, some company definitely screwed things up. I find it unbelievable that this has not been tested before the release of LR6. I will never be an early adopter (= beta tester) again...
I just bought LightRoom today, I order a disc from Amazon. Did you load from a CD or a wireless download? I'll get the disc on the 30th
Finally... after four evenings of trial and error, I have found the solution: It seems to have something to do with the writing rights of the folder Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe. For reasons that are completely beyond me, this folder was set to "read only" for staff/admin, which apparently is a problem for LR6 to get launched. By selecting Get Info and changing these rights to "read & write" the problem seems to be solved. I have no idea who caused this devilish spell -- Adobe, Apple, or both -- but I'm convinced that this should never have happened.

I tried all the suggestions in these forums, and none of them worked for me. Amazon was able to issue a refund. I guess I'll wait to see when it's fixed, and start with the 30 day trial version... currently the 30 day version won't even work. I gave Adobe all my crash information and console reports from terminal - when they actually put someone on this problem, they have the info to solve it.
