HELP!!! I can't add music to my Ipod!! :(

I have an iPod touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.6) and i have been trying to add music to it since yesterday. I have connected the iPod to my PC (Running on Windows 8.1) and when i try to add the music via iTunes (iOS 12.1.2) i get a box pop up saying "iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPod "Nics iPod touch" because no songs in your iTunes library can be played on this iPod".

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, Restoring the iPod through iTunes, Setting the iPod to manually add music, changed the "convert higher bit rate songs to..." I've also checked the music format against what can be put on the iPod..... nothing is working. It also hasn't asked me to trust my computer which i always get when i plug my iPhone in?

Anyone any ideas as i'm losing the will to live!!!! :/

I should also point out that the music is showing on the iPod on iTunes but its all grayed out and has a dotted circle to the left of the music?

Do the songs play in iTunes on the computer?

What is the format of the songs?

Where did the songs come from?

hi!

Yes, the songs play in itunes fine. They are all MP3's. I downloaded them using a you tube converter. I used to have an iPod shuffle and when i used to do the same with that, the songs worked fine?

What are the format details? iTunes can play formats that the iPod can't.

Try converting the format using the option in the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes. The one that says convert higher bitrate songs to XX kb/sec ACC. Try x or 128

It shows 3 different options, and ive tried all 3 of them. I tried creating a playlist folder and adding them manually that way, It looked as though it was starting something as it said "Preparing your iPod" (or something like that - it flashed up and disappeared before i could get a proper look)?

Are you still getting this message "iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPod "Nics iPod touch" because no songs in your iTunes library can be played on this iPod".

If i try to add it manually i get the same message but if i try to sync it, it flashes as though its going to start working, but doesn't do anything. its like its not recognizing the iPod is connected? My iTunes keeps freezing too :/

Ive just tried to add the music manually again and its saying "Updating files on "Nics iPod Touch" - Preparing to update" but then that message goes off and nothing else happens. I clicked it again, and the original message popped up...
