So you can send iMessages but not normal SMS?

SMS messages (the ones to non-iPhone users) are a carrier feature. You should contact your carrier and have them make sure that your account is properly set up. Even if it was fine before, sometimes glitches happen.

Thanks it looks like it was an EE problem as a few people were experiencing it from what there community pages were saying. Seems ok now.
