Q: How can I rename photos in new Photos app?

I recently 'updated' to Photos from iPhoto. Now I can't see how to rename groups of my pictures. E.g. when I import from qmycamera, I could select some of the imported photos and give them a common name and sequential numbering, then do the dame for another selection of photos, giving them a different name with sequential numbering. In iPhoto, I could use the "rename photos" function in the menubar Photos dropdown menu where I had options to change various things including rename with text and sequential numbering for selected groups of photos. I can't find this function anywhere in the new Photos application on Yosemite.

Can anyone steer me to the menus that do this? I can't find the info anywhere in any Photos material, even online forums etc.

In addition, there is no menubar along the top panel of the Photos pane. It's just a flat grey panel.

Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Genius.....

Now can you help me with this. When importing from my iPhone events are created. However when importing from my Olympus camera the pictures are there but no event is created. Is that normal?

If you want to batch change the titles of photos to a common title with a sequential number on the end use this Applescript offered in the Photos for Mac User Tiips:  Photos for Mac - Batch Change Title to Text w/Padded Sequential No.

This is what you can get with it:

I don't think Photos does Events like iPhoto. But, I haven't imported enough from various sources to know.

There are no events in Photos - Moments is the "new" event structure

I don't think Photos does Events like iPhoto.

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.

When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there is a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.

NOTE: It's been reported by several users that if the Event albums are moved out of the iPhoto Library folder in the sidebar they may disappear.  It's not widespread but several users have reported that issue.  Therefore, if you want to assure that you keep those Event albums don't move them outside the iPhoto Events folder.

There's a way to simulate events in Photos.

When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder

When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.

Albums and smart albums can be sorted by Title, by Date with oldest first and by Date with newest first.

Tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added in Photos via Apple-Photos Feedback.

Wow, Larry, thanks so much!  I had despaired of being able to add my own title to photos -- until you guided me to the view menu.  There's no way I would have figured that out on my own.  Well done, sir!
