Why does purchasing a child's song require 9 separate steps?

My daughter just wanted to buy 12 songs on iTunes. We have family sharing and child accounts set up. For each song I had to do the following 9 steps:

  1. (On itunes) Click on the price
  2. Enter childs iTunes password
  3. Confirm desire to buy
  4. Ask for permission
  5. (On my phone) - Click Approve
  6. Enter password
  7. (On itunes again) - Click on price
  8. Enter childs iTunes password
  9. Confirm desire to buy

Why doesn't the song start downloading once permission has given? Why does the child's password need to be entered multiple times for a single session? Surely there must be an easier way?
