iPhone 5C will not sync to my Mac

What do I do when my iPhone 5C will not sync to my Mac? iTunes recognizes my phone, but when I click "sync" an error message that says "iPhone could not sync because the syncing session failed to start" appears. I have already tried restarting my iPhone and that didn't work. Please help!

My Mac is a Macbook Pro from 2012 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

iPhone 5c, iOS 8.3
