I got syrup inside my iPhone 5. The charger is not working.

I don't know why, but I put a jar of syrup, my iPhone 5, charger and earphones in the same bag whilst I was walking to my sister-in-law's house. When I got there, I then realized everything in that bag was covered in syrup as it had leaked. I cleaned and wiped everything, and it was working, but 3-4 days later, I cleaned it again, and my old charger was not working. So I decided to use my new charger, and it is also not working. I do not know what to do, I even tried cleaning out the lighting port but nothing is happening. Please help me.
