What to do so that CUPS works with OS X Yosemity?

Since I updated my Mac to OS 10.10 Yosemity my CUPS printer does not work anymore. No PDFs are created.

I read in mamy communities in the net that this is a fact since late 2014 and I hoped that this issue is solved now - is it?

You'd have to find the developer of whatever CUPS to PDF program you have and see if they have updated it.

The standard Save to PDF isn't suitable?

Dear Barney-15E,

what I usually do is to backup my wifes pages documents from her business as a PDF. This are always about 1500 files a year and until now I just toss them on the CUPS printer icone and after some time waiting I get 1500 PDF.

Any other Program which can do this is also welcome.

I already tried the PDFwriter, but this software ia also not working.

The CUPS-PDF I use now (and is not working) called CUPD V 2.5.0.

I just checked there homepage and try to work through the troubleshooting when using Yosemity.

I wiss post a message herewhen it works.

Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"). Perhaps it would have the same effect with some other kinds of printers that aren't supported in Yosemite.

I have not tested the hack myself. As far as I know it will not break the compatibility of printing software that is already compatible with Yosemite. It may degrade the security of the printing system. It's up to you to decide whether that risk is worth taking.

Yes they do but they have no solution either.

I tried the developer homepage and the give som advice which I do not understand:

1) Place the org.cups.cupsd.plist in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ and change owner and group to root/wheel

2) Place the cups-pdf.conf in /etc/cups/ and change owner and group to root/wheel

3) Unload and load the cupsd process by typing:

sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.cups.cupsd.plist

sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.cups.cupsd.plist

4) Try to print to the Desktop by choosing the PDF Printer.

How to change the owner? - What is the /etc/... directory I have no idea.

I think I will have to give up (with a lot of non working PDF printer drivers on my system).

By the way I also tried desktopPDFcreator, which is quite nice as you can select the outputfolder by the software, but if I use drag and drop to this printer it always really prints to my EPSON and creates no PDF!

I think I get to old for all this complicated stuff.

Dear All,

I solved the problem with an alternative software I already use for many years -> The GraphicConverter.

As Thorsten Lemke, the programmer is German I asked him to ad a "convert pages to PDF" function in his software and he just did it!

I got the beta version and the promise that in the version 9.6.3 this will be standard.

This software converted 2000 pages files to PDF with half the file-size I usaly get from printing to PDF.

This little software is just great.

... and can be downloaded in the App store.

Bye Bye
