What happened to the now playing feature in ios 8.3

What has happened to the "Now Playing" feature in Music with the update to ios 8.3? On both my iPhone 5s and iPad Mini, launching the app now always opens iTunes Radio and does not retain my last place. This is especially difficult when listening to an audio book. Is there a work around? A setting that can be changed?
