I keep my database in FileMaker and export records from the database and import them into Contacts. After I deleted all the contacts in Contacts and imported new contacts from FileMaker, some of the old information that I thought I had deleted reappears. How can I truly delete all the old records from Contacts so that I can start fresh with a new import?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Applications Support/AddressBook/Sources. There may be 2 choices there. Select the one with data in it. Then go to Metadata and delete the contents of the folder.

Thank you, Eric. Do you have any idea why the records are not actually deleted unless the files in Metadata are deleted? To put it another way, why doesn't Contacts delete those files?
It's funny that there is still a folder called "AddressBook" even though the application is now called "Contacts".
UPDATE: I deleted all the contacts within Contacts and then all the files in the Metadata folder were deleted. The subsequent import worked fine.

It's no longer doing the strange thing, so it doesn't really matter.
Now I'm having serious problems syncing the contacts with my iPhone. Might you have a suggestion?
