iPhone 6 with MS Outlook

My wife uses a PC and Outlook for her calendar and contacts. She just got an iPhone 6 and I wonder how well this phone will work with Outlook. She does not use Apple Mail but does use Gmail. In the back of my head I'm wondering if we shouldn't return the iPhone 6 and purchase an Android phone. If the iPhone does work well with Outlook, where can we go to setup the phone properly?
