Disk Utility cannot verify hard drive

Trying to install Safari Yosemite on a Macbook Pro Mid 2011 with an OS X Snow Leopard and went straight to upgrading to OS X Yosemite.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)
