Ok what happens when you try to launch System Preferences, is that ok
so what happens when you try to launch Desktop & Screen Saver Preferences.
do any other preference panes cause trouble?

EAU...I'm sorry....I was premature in telling you I still have this problem. When I checked your original response it worked just fine. Many thanks. My aggravations are all gone.
