Move (not copy) picture from one album to another

In Photos, is it possible to move (not copy) pictures from one album to another? Seems like a simple thing but I can't figure out how to do it without copying and deleting.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Thanks for your response. I was hoping to move rather than copy as I'm trying to organize my pictures into albums (since they got rid of events).

Like most things with Photos, it seems like this will be a pain in the a**.

There is no copying involved. When you drag an image into another album all you're doing is placing a pointer (kind of like an alias) to the original image in its Moment. There's no duplication of files involved.

So no, you can't just move. You'll need to drag and then delete from the first album if you don't want it in that album.

Remember, having photos in albums is like having an audio track in multiple playlists in iTunes. Only one file but many pointers back to that file.l

Correct, ........But the previous versions allowed you to move not copy the pointer or alias to another album by holding down the OPTION ket which is an Apple GUI standard across all products but was lost in this version !!!!

Another bug !

.....along with the greyed out SET KEY PHOTO menu option and the missing COPY LOCATION feature.

All gone now !

So now you cannot change the key photo which Apple chooses for you album and you cannot fix a photo location by copying the GPS location from another pic if your GPS fails !

(since they got rid of events).

The Moments are the new events. Every photo will be in exactly one moment. And they are created automatically for you based on capture date and location. Albums are very different from events or moments, since a photo can be in many albums at the same time. Dragging between albums has been implemented to add to an album, but not to remove from the original album. But simply click the delete kay after selecting and dragging to a different album, then the dragged photos will be removed from the original album.

Thanks, this is quite helpful, but I'm not sure its working for me.

I've got two smart albums, one that selects all pictures from 2014 (smart list 1) and one that is showing all pictures from 2014 that are not in an album (smart list 2). I've also removed all of the 2014 pictures from any normal albums (including the albums created from events). However, I am showing about 200 (or 20%) pictures that are in smart list 1 and not in smart list 2. I can't think of any albums that these pictures would be in.

Is there any way to find out which album(s) a picture is in?

Leonie,

I do not think moments are the new events nor anything like them unless you imported ever photo into iPhoto defaulting to dated events and even then they could be multiple locations. They provide a completely different functionality.

The Events in iPhoto allowed you to create a grouping of photos manually on any criteria .

Moments is strictly grouped on date/time and location.

The old events have been converted into albums under iPhoto Events on the sidebar of Photos.

Correct , and it is an Apple standard Graphical User Interface function across Apple products to use the modifier OPTION key to do this.

It was in previous versions and lost in this one.

It just means more work in cleaning up albums for the user (the opposite of Apple system design objectives to date).

Apple have been inconsistent and ignored their own standards.

I can't find a way either. Here's what I gather it will have to be. I have to put ALL of my photos in the Photos folder. Inside that folder will be whatever I named the folder to sync in iTunes. (In my case, iPad Pics.) So if in that folder I have pictures of (just to use fake categories) girlfriends, dogs, bike, cars and house, I can create other folders on the iPad for each of those categories, and then copy the pics that belong in those folders to the right place. That will NOT remove them from iPad Pics, but when viewing, if I want to show people pics of just my dogs, or just my bike, or just my..... I have to do it in those subfolders rather than in the iPad Pics folder.

Do I have it? I don't want people to see pics of my girlfriend when I am trying to show them my bike, so I have to use subfolders and forget that main iPad Pics folder is even there.
