Cannot answer calls on Apple watch

i am unable to receive calls through the Apple watch. I receive notifications of the call and get the decline or accept buttons but if i tap the green button it answers on my iPhone6 instead of the Watch. I can make calls from the watch just fine. everything else seems to be working well also. I just can't receive a call on the watch and then talk through the watch.

AAfter spending 1hr on phone with Apple , she made me an appt with Apple Store . Seems my problem was that I was pushing the accept button , when I should have just tapped . He said when I was pushing it was like I was forcing the face . Just tap & things should be OK . I can now answer the calls to my with my watch

Called Apple Support - They recommended an erase and set up as new - however I didn't want to do this so I did some testing and had some success with this:

  1. Turn off the Apple Watch
  2. On your iPhone close all apps (double press the home button and flip the apps away to close them)
  3. Turn on the Apple Watch
  4. Force Restart your iPhone (press and hold the sleep/wake and home button until the phone restarts)
  5. Wait until both devices are up and running (give the watch a little time to establish a connection)

I could then receive and make calls on the Apple Watch.

Just to note: I initially turned off all my other Apple devices first (so my MacBook Pro and two iPads were off). I then tested making and receiving calls turning one device on at a time. Each time I successfully made and received at call.

I think the trick here is Closing all the Apps and the Forced iPhone Restart, as it was failing to answer calls on the watch when I was away from all the Wifi call enabled devices so I don't think call forwarding is the culprit. Whether this holds true for any give amount of time or if i've just instigated a temporary fix remains to be seen. Let me know how you get on. Good Luck 🙂

Me too. Same issue. Have taken it in to Apple Store and my carrier and they are stumped. I just tried the "forced restart" suggestion above and that didn't work either unfortunately. I'm actually "glad" to see other people now having the same issue on here. Hopefully this will mean it will be fixed in a software update. Is everyone having this issue using an iphone 6?

I just figured out how to get my Apple Watch to receive incoming calls.

I use T-Mobile because I was interested in/wanted to use the Wi-Fi calling feature.

After going through the steps to reset my watch, reset my iphone, re-pair the watch to the phone, etc. I still was not receiving calls on my watch.

I thought that maybe it was a conflict with Wi-Fi calling so I disabled Wi-Fi calling and I was immediately able to receive calls on my watch.

Hope this helps someone else.

I did submit this as feedback to https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html since I should at least be notified of incoming calls on the Apple Watch when using Wi-Fi calling (it worked fine on the Pebble).

Add me to this list too. Everything working fine including out going calls (which is awesome - but people do give you funny looks 😁). However with incoming calls - the call shows on my Apple Watch - but clicking answer, answers it on my iPhone 6 in my pocket not the watch.

I've seen a couple of threads suggesting turning off wifi on all your devices can help with this as it could be a linked to Yosemite / iOS Call Forwarding - but with a couple of iPads, an iPhone and a MacBook - this just isn't an option for me.

I have also tried re-pairing - to no avail.

Early adopter issues I guess - hopefully on top of the list for the first software update. I will attempt to call Apple tonight.

Interesting.

I had already tried the repairing and setting up as new again (man that takes a while)

I followed your process and got it to work. Just to be sure, before I started, I disabled wifi and bluetooth on my iMac during the process so there wouldn't be any other Apple devices in range that could be seen/heard by my phone/watch. I have an open case with Apple that has been escalated to Engineering so I will update my ticket with this information.

I'm still seeing spotty performance on notifications. I'll also run a test or two with the iMac wifi/bluetooth enabled to see what happens when the iPhone tries handoff to the iMac when receiving a call.

Being a 1st Gen device and early adopter I'm still impressed with the Apple Watch, these speed bumps are bound to happen so its not the end of the world 🙂 My guess is we'll see a software update drop pretty soon if they are able to isolate the issue.
