Q: Charging issues, overheating and battery problem

it seems okay now, but when charging my 38mm sport, it got to about 44%, and stayed there whilst getting quite hot. It then said the charger was an unsupported accessory so I left it unplugged for 5 minutes. It cooled down and then charged to 100% within an hour, is this normal? aren't they supposed to be charged overnight?

I've never had this problem again when charging since I posted this question, however I'm still concerned about the cause of the problem and if it's hardware as it could happen again.

I Have had this problem and I am very upset. I love apple but this is basics that should have been identified   I rebooted and it was fine for a week. Now I wake up and it never charged and it showed charging. It is hot as well. I don't think I should have to worry every night if my watch will be charged when I wake. Frustrating to say the least.

I Returned mine ordered different model still waiting. Apple being a pain about this not aknowledging an issue and doing nothing to expedite new watch . Had stainless model ordered sport. Lasted two days.

Returned mine-new one is on the way. Odds of me getting two that have the same issue would have to be pretty low, I would guess. Although, in my case the watch worked fine for a couple of charging cycles before doing this, so it will be a while before I have any confidence in it.

The last two mornings, I have noticed that my watch has not reached the 100% charged level (on the charger for about 7 hours).  Furthermore, it is rather hot, I would say too hot to be normal.  I have had the watch (SS 42mm) since April 28th, so almost for two weeks.  I worry that this is a hardware issue and not software.

How did you return it? Did you simply just return it, or did you have Apple send you a new one for free in exchange for the damaged one?

i found that if i power off and power back on it charges fine.  I think that when it charges for some reason if the charger isn't correctly on the watch it causes this issue.  i have had it twice so far but will monitor because if it continues i will exchange.  i just don't want to return as i love having it during the day and will miss it if i have to wait for a new one.

^ Yes, I noticed this as well.  One has to carefully center the magnetic puck on the back of the watch.  If it is not centered, the watch begins to heat up.  I am now convinced this is the issue behind the overheating during charging (at least for me).

My watch had charging problem at first day when I got it. It was hot when charging, but after reboot and reset, it was charged well.

Now after a week, it cannot be charged again.

The watch show the charge accessory is not supported. But it was charged again one day after, and now it is not charged again.

    Why?

return it ASAP . Apple not openly acknowledging issue, have no watches to exchange . I had same issues day one, had extra charger didn't help. Apple not helping at all. Returned watch waiting on reorder. .if you don't return it they will make you send in for evaluation and repair could be months.

Anyone having these issues, even if they appear to have gone away. I Would return it, before it is too late. If not they will make you send in for evaluation and repair unknown time frames and many of us have had the issue return. It is currently unknown if it is watch hardware, charger or software issue. Apple should be immediately asking for bad watches back offering replacements and testing those units at their time and expense to resolve the issue. However, currently they are not doing this, instead consumers left hanging.

Couldn't return my watch online, so I phoned customer support yesterday. I explained the issue that myself and many others were having. They didn't take long to offer me a refund or a replacement. I took the refund, just so I can wait and make sure that the problem is fixed, then I may consider purchasing another one. To be honest anyway, I wasn't really impressed with the watch like I hoped I would be, so I am not fussed about purchasing another.

I did an express replacement, so they sent me a new one, charged my credit card, and will refund it when they receive the bad one. I had to be very insistent about this- they don't have a whole lot of replacement units to send out.

Is this problem occurring in just SS? Has anyone had this problem with the sport? Maybe it has something to do with the Stainless Steel casing. If someone has had this problem with the sport, then I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

I Would return defective ones, before it is too late. If not they will make you send in for evaluation and repair unknown time frame If you have more than 14 days from shipping. Mine was stainless , just received replacement I ordered cheaper aluminum sport. So far so good. Comes with different charger as well all plastic.i had replacement order flagged by AppleCare so it might come quicker , don't know if it did took two plus weeks to arrive .
