Q: Watch failing to notify me to stand up, doesn't track when I stand up

Got my watch yesterday, and aside from three times total in the past 24+ hours of having it and wearing it, it doesn't alert me to stand up once per hour.

The watch also doesn't seem to track when I stand up of my own accord, be it to just stand up for a minute, or when I move around my house to get things done.

Is there something I need to do to get the watch to sense when I'm standing up, and to tell me to stand up once per hour? It alerted me 3 hours in a row, always at the 50 minute marker (such as 1:50, 2:50, etc) to stand up for a minute. Then it stopped.

I wear the watch as tight as possible.

Oops! I looked for another thread like this but couldn't find one.

Thanks for responding! Definitely a bummer, along with the other bugs I've been experiencing.

Let me know if you learn anything!

i got it to work a few times if i tap "ok" after the notification and walk around right away. but even that was inconsistent.

If it manages to remind me to stand up, once I tap okay, it does track that. Otherwise, it doesn't track anything.

I'm not at all convinced the watch is tracking what I'm doing properly. I occasionally get a reminder to stand up. When I did some exercise a while ago, it didn't seem to register anything in the activity app on "exercise" although my heart rate was well over 100. It registered yesterday when I set up a work-out, but that seemed to just measure the time I inputted.

Definitely not quite what I was expecting. It doesn't seem very accurate at all as a fitness tracker. I don't care that much as I bought it for the looks and novelty value, but annoying that it doesn't live up to the advertising.

I see I'm not alone. I'm finding the same thing. There's been numerous occasions when it dings me to stand up, but even if I go for a 10 minute walk, it's not always registering me as standing for that hour. It makes me wonder how accurate the other tracking features are...

You need to open the workout app for workouts to be tracked

Something I've noticed is that the standing times aren't 100% down the minute detailed. For example, if I stand up when it alerts me to, it gives me another hour onto my standing time for the day, even if I only stand for a few minutes.

I see these goals as more of guidelines and not hard and exact numbers since we can be standing and sitting a lot depending on the day.

Overall, it does seem to gauge my standing and sitting time mostly accurately (enough to satisfy me so far any way).

However, just now it told me to stand and I have been standing all day....Definitely still has some little quirks but I think it will smooth out with new updates.

Also make sure you open the workout app if you workout so the watch knows.

Also check your settings in the Apple Watch app and make sure the standing reminders are on and the Activity alerts are also on, and that Activity is properly configured on your iPhone.

    Hope that helps

If I understand it correctly, your watch wants you to stand 1 minute per hour, all hours you are awake for the day. If it does manage to track when you stand up, it should track one minute per each hour you're on your feet, and add that to the activity wheel. Total for 12 minutes in a day. I could see wanting it to track the 30 minutes (arbitrary number) you're standing here and there, so you have that info - that would be a nice feature. While it's arguably healthier to be on your feet more often than not during the day, I think Apple's main goal is to just get people up once per hour.

I do use the workout app.

All alerts are on. Sometimes it reminds me to stand up every hour at the fifty-minute mark, sometimes it goes hours without.

I was also on my feet for two straight hours on Saturday and it didn't notice it until I was 1.5 hours in, and then it asked me to stand up.

Yes, lots of little quirks/bugs popping up all over the place. Passcode issues, the watch interrupting the bluetooth connection of phone-to-car (and requiring me to un-pair then re-pair my phone to car) when I get a notification of any kind, the stand tracking issue, not tracking movement accurately, etc. I don't mind, though. I'm usually a beta tester for other products and video games, so I just try to report what I encounter.

I"m finding the same thing.  Yesterday, I was at 11/12 rings.  I was at home and was consistently standing from 10-12 and didn't get credit for standing.  This morning, up for two hours, consitently stood-up and only got credit for 1 hour.  No reminders to stand-up, either.

My watch was not tracking my standing this morning. I restarted it, stood around for a couple minutes, and it appears to be tracking fine now. Hopefully this will not be a common reoccurring issue, but the restart seems to have fixed it for the time being.

When in doubt, restarting is one of the best troubleshooting steps for any device.

Yes, feedback is not consistent.  I have a standing desk and receive notifications while working at my desk.  Also, this will likely create some misleading heart rate measurements, too.  Software updates should result in sensor refinement.

I should have mentioned this in my original post.

Yes, I've restarted my watch. Multiple times. If I were to restart anymore often than I do now at the sight of a bug, there'd be no point in even putting the darn thing on. In other words, doesn't resolve anything.

Like others are reporting about the locking issue (as in my thread about it), I wonder if my wrist tattoos have anything to do with any of the issues. I guess today I'll wear the watch on the inside of my wrist, where there are none.

I think the key is that the reminder is to stand up AND move. I started using my watch a couple days ago. The stand up and move reminder appears to be working, though it is unclear how much one has to move to satisfy the hour's requirement.

I find that I am only reminded to stand up if I have not moved much for the first 50 minutes of an hour on the clock. Then, if I stand up and walk around for 1-2 minutes, then it tells me that I achieved the standing merit for that hour. If I only stand and walk a little bit, then I notice a faint blue bar in the standing activity for that hour but it doesn't count toward my goal for the day.

It would be nice if Apple were more explicit about how much movement is necessary to achieve the hourly goal.
