Q: Stand ring not increasing correctly

Today is my first day using Apple Watch, and two times it reminded me to stand up.  So I did.  I walked around for at least 3 minutes. Yet both those hours show up as dark in the stand graph, and I did not get "credit" for them.

Then there was another hour when I was standing/walking for the first half hour.  Then I was in the car, then I was sitting on the couch.  I did not get credit for that hour either.  I thought you only had to stand for one minute out of sixty?!  Or is it one SPECIFIC minute?  It seems to remind me at X:50.  Does it not matter if I was standing from X:01-X:49, if I was not standing for X:50??

Is there a sensitivity/calibration issue?  How does it now if I'm standing?  If I just stand up but don't move, will it know? Or do I need to walk around?

Last question: my stand graph shows blue bars for each hour.  A bright bar if I stood up.  But then there are TWO other colors.  One is solid black.  One is a very faint blue.  Like a shadow.  I thought there was just bright and dark- but now there's this third color. What does that mean?  This seems to imply that I sat still from 1-3 and then 7-9, but that's not true. And why is 7-8 different?

having same problems. you can see my thread...talked to apple for an hour and no solution yet.  been playing with it more and still inconsistent results   let me know if you figure it out!

the light blue is when you didn't stand, the black or no bar is for when you weren't wearing your watch

But... I was wearing my watch.  Maybe took it off for five minutes, but that shouldn't matter...

Sorry it's happening to you, but glad I'm not alone (or crazy).

Also walked two miles today, but only got 11 minutes of exercise?? Even used the workout app, and it was 35min of walking.  Does your heart rate have to get over a certain threshold for it to count?

    Re: Standing

Guys its not that complicated, it only measures your standing every hour, over 12 hours. The idea is that you stand up once every hour if working at a desk or sitting down all day on a lazy Sunday (as this will inevitably lead to a brisk walk around which burns more calories / keeps you active). It won't register every stand you do, its not an exercise program.

However, if you like standing up and sitting down a lot this will count towards your calorie goal, which the Apple Watch will measure! :-)

That's the problem Ben- apparently it DOESN'T measure that. One hour it said I didn't stand- but I was running around outside for the first half the hour, so that's clearly wrong.  And then two other hours I was watching a movie, but when it told me to stand, I did- yet it didn't give me "credit" for those hours.  So I'm trying to figure out how it calculates "standing".

Okay I hope this helps, I have just had a notification that told me to stand up so I did. After standing I went for a brisk walk round the back garden after I had done this for a few minutes I had a second notification which ii informed me I have achieved my goal for the hour. It may be that you are not standing up and moving enough to achieve your goal .

apple customer care said you are supposed to just need to stand up for a minute and then it will register, i took up took the trash out and walked up and down a flight of steps and it didn't even register.  :S  still experimenting more....hopped around my room for 3 minutes, didn't register.  i was out shopping all day on the town for 7 hours and it registered every hour and didn't even need to notify me to stand.

I think you may be right- but they describe it as just making sure you *stand up* for at least one minute out of every hour.  If you really have to go run around for five minutes for it to "count", they should say that.

I didn't run around I just went for a walk around the back garden.  Just a little bit of movement that's all for a couple of minutes.

I also feel like if you are standing up for the first minute of an hour (or any minute), it should say you've done your standing for the hour, and check it off, and not give you an alert later.  But it seems like it only checks at the :50 mark??

i did that.  Got an alert and walked around the living room for 2-3 minutes. Did not get a follow up message, and did not get credit for the hour.  So I don't know if a sensor is not working or their algorithm isn't sensitive enough or what.  Regardless- walking is different from just standing.  Sure, it's great to walk- but if their goal is to STAND, you should STAND.  Like in the commercials they show a girl on the subway who gets an alert and just stands in place. The walking/exercise requirements are in the other rings.

i think this feature is just broken and working as they wanted to.  they need to figure out what the situations are that didn't match their testing and get this fixed. or it might just be sensors not working consistently right. :S  first generation device blues     this is the only problem i'm having so far that i'm noticing. otherwise i'm really enjoying my AW

we we know it works if you take a long walk but the feature is called STAND and listen to tim cook talk about it and you should not need to be walking around the block to register it.  also this is a first gen buggy device, there's going to be some variations in results for different people. thanks for letting us know you aren't having the problem though.

So, this is happening to me too.  Very maddening.  Only real problem I've seen with the Apple Watch so far.  Is this likely to be an issue with faulty hardware or should a software update fix the issue down the road?

Just wanted to add that it's broken for me too.  I get the notification, stand up, and nothing happens.  I don't get a second notification.  I tried chatting with apple support and they disconnected me.  Very frustrating.
