New Photos App not compatible with PowerPoint

I recently allowed Apple to "upgrade" my iPhoto to Photos. I know many people did not like iPhoto, but there were several things I could do with iPhoto that I don't seem to be able to do anymore. Specifically, in PowerPoint for Mac (2011) I used to be able to use my iPhoto library to "insert photo from photo browser". Now Photos doesn't appear where iPhoto used to be (only PhotoBooth which I do not use). You also cannot insert a photo from file because there is no corresponding Photos file. Finally, I tried to just drag the photo in from Photos to PowerPoint and this doesn't work either! I opened up KeyNote and you can drag from Photos just fine there. I have all my presentations in PowerPoint and don't want to switch to KeyNote. Do I need to stop using Photos? Should I reinstall iPhoto? Is Apple working on a workaround? Do I need to get a newer version of PowerPoint (is there one)? Right now I am very frustrated with Photos (I also hate the name because it is very difficult to search for solutions because this name is so generic). Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I would suspect that many 3rd party applications like PowerPoint will either have to update to be compatible or will we will have to get upgraded versions of the software. I noticed the same that I can't copy a picture in Word, even thought the Photo browser shows the pictures there. It won't let me insert any image in a page.

Right now, I have no problem opening iPhoto or Photos. I guess the support is probably gone for iPhoto, but for now it is still usable. However, I'm sure Photos is more integrated into the system now and will probably be more useful to me.

Even if you do go back to iPhoto, the Yosemite upgrade may have had other effects and you will have to see if it works as before with PowerPoint.

Photos is so new that other applications have not yet been updated to work with it, hence your issue. For the time being, the best workaround is to first export (or drag out) the needed images to a folder on your desktop and import, or drag, them into your browser or other apps from there. From what I've heard the new Microsoft Word preview is already compatible with Photos.

Exporting photos to the desktop does not work in Word, at least in mine. I've tried every format available also. I have done that and tried every way to get the photo to show in a word document. It does not. I haven't tried PowerPoint.

In fact, Word still has a photo browser where all the pictures still show. And that doesn't work either. I don't really use word so I'm not inclined to spend a lot of time worrying about it or trying to get it to work.
