The colourful circle mouse is generally caused due to lack of system resources available or the Mac just being flat out old.

I have recently upgraded the hard drive to an SSD on mine, and I see the spinning wheel a lot less.

Try the following things:

  • Change out the hard drive in your laptop for an SSD (Make sure to back up all of your data though!)
  • Upgrade the RAM in it (Macs come with a measly amount of RAM that doesn't stand up to most modern day software)
  • If the ones above are 1: Either done or 2: Don't make a difference which they should, just wipe your hard drive and reinstall OS X. Your Mac will slow down over time generally due to the large capacity of files that have to be read from the hard drive. It always works a beauty.

Hope this helped! 🙂
