I cannot find my devices on iTunes 12.

I have tried multiple times with multiple devices, and I know that my iPhone is connected because it is charging on my laptop right now, and it shows the connection. It simply isn't showing up in my iTunes. Any assistance? I have some music I want to get downloaded! thanks!
