Q: Import from iPhone Slow/Hangs when clicking the Import button when import is in progress

Apparent Problem: After starting an Import, Photos moves to the Albums Panel. At this point, clicking the Import tab may cause the import to hang.

Work Around: Do not click the Import tab while an import is in progress

Details:

With the new Photos application, I am encountering an issue with importing photos via USB from my iPhone (tried with a 5 and 5S). After plugging in my iPhone, then opening Photos, I navigate to the Import tab. I select to "import all new items" button to import my photos/videos (about 400 total for one phone, 67 on the other), then the import starts. Photos then automatically navigates to the Albums tab to show the last imports. The first couple files are very quick, the next couple take a few seconds however show up at the same time. I then click the Import tab to review the photos that will be uploaded. I then click back on the Albums tab to see how the import is doing. Photos import has not imported any additional photos since I had clicked the Import tab.

After 10 minutes of no additional progress, I go back to Import and press the Stop Import button. This seems to do nothing. I then select to quit Photos, and am prompted if I want to continue importing. Clicking yes does not resolve the issue. Quitting again, and then clicking no, I get a "Closing the library..." dialog that hangs. I eventually force quit Photos. I repeated this process a number of times on the phone with 400 images, and when there were only 33 files left, the issue did not repeat.

With the phone with 67 photos, the first import of 18 photos took place, then I clicked the Import tab. I then went back to the Album tab and noted no additional images were imported. After waiting a few minutes I quit, then force quit the application. The next attempt, I did not move from the Albums tab after starting the import (having a hunch the common action was clicking the Import button) and the import of the remaining images went without issue.

Now even when I do not move off the Albums tab Photos will lock up during an import.

I have exactly the same problem. Photos app hangs every time when trying to import photos from my iPhone 5 to my Macbook Pro. I have alot of photos though (1.200 new items), but after 3 days of trying I still haven't succeeded importing even one photo / video. Sometimes it hangs already when Import All new items button is greyed out, today first time I could actually click the button but progress bar hanged before even importing one photo.

Strange question, perhaps: do you have any photos that you have saved to your iPhone Photos App from another program? Ones that were perhaps edited in another program? Example: I have photos that were edited in Lightroom/Photoshop that I saved to jpg, then emailed them to my me.com address, and  saved to my iPhone Photo app so that I could paste them into Instagram. Anything like that? When I went to import my latest photos/videos from my iPhone 5s, the preview of the photos on the import tab stopped right around where those saved photos were, slowed to a crawl, would not let me view photos after them, or import anything. Is this what you are experiencing? If so, I deleted the culprit photos and importing went lickity split after that.
