Why isn't spotlight pulling up my old messages when I type keywords

Some times I want to go back through my old messages to find certain conversation but it takes forever to scroll that far. So i tried typing in key words from certain conversation using spotlight but it won't bring up my old messages,and I know they haven't been deleted. Does anyone know how to fix this?
