Q: On iMessage why does it come up as my email not my phone number

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you can send messages but the conversation shows your email address. I would recommend that you read this article, look at the section for start a new conversation from to see if the phone number is selected.
