changing/deleting alternate apple ID

How do I delete my alternate apple id? There's no option in the management settings. I simply don't like the old @me handle and the moniker I chose 5 years ago. Want to change it or delete the alternate. No options. It's set in stone apparently?

just got off the phone with apple tech support, most frustrating call ever. Ended in a mexican standoff, horrible service. They won't do anything. Going in circles.

Delete the entire Apple ID? There's no option to delete the entire account.

Would simply like to use iCloud mail without an old handle I never wanted int he first place. And in order to do this, I need to delete or change that alternate ID. But I can't!! Is there a direct line to speak to someone about this?

The problem you probably ran into with Support is that an Apple ID cannot be deleted or merged into another. All you can do is stop using the old ID and let if fade away.

Support was not being difficult, that has just been the policy and procedure since Apple ID started.

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com/@me.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).

However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.)

You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

re-read what I posted. You actually can delete an Apple ID, but you cannot delete an Alternate Apple ID. And, because I don't have free-will and control over the handles & ID names within my account, I consider that whole-heartedly a difficult situation for both myself and dealing with support.

I'm well of aware of the alias feature, but that's not what I care about here. What I care about is not being able to change the name of the Alternate ID. It is set in stone, a name I no longer want. I need greater simplicity and control over names. Call it OCD, whatever. I should have the free will to change this, and cannot. It's a underlying problem using iCloud mail in addition to what I wrote above. As a result, I haven't been using iCloud mail, because I simply hate the x@me.com name Apple has chiseled to my forehead.
