external monitors maximum resolution?

hi and thanks for stopping by.

i own a macbook pro late 2011 high-res with 2.2ghz i7, 16gb ram and the standard intel hd graphics 3000 512mb.

i consider buying a high-res screen, like the dell ultrasharp 27 up2715k screen, with a resolution of 5120 x 2880px.

will my macbook be capable to run this resolution..?

does maybe somebody have any experince with that kind of setup?

or is there any recommendation, like a maximum resolution or a gfx update?

my goal is to have a retina screen..

thanks for your help

The Late MBP will not support that resolution, the maximum external display resolution is:

There is no way to upgrade the graphic module as that is a chip set soldered to the logic board.

In order to drive the up2715k at 5K resolution you will need a Mac Pro or an iMac Retina. Right now a 24" screen with 4K resolution is your best option to get portable mac with external retina display. Hopefully the next generation of the MacBook Pro's will support the up2715k as external monitor at 5K resolution.
