will apple support contact you via instant messaging to suggest you buy mac cleaner because your system may have viruses??

I just received a "message" via some sort of instant messaging app, purportedly from an Apple Tech, saying I had as many as 3 viruses on my computer and strongly suggesting I purchase Mac Cleaner. Doesn't sound right to me but I did get directed to a unwanted site the other day, so I wanted to find out if anyone else has seen this.
