Problem with track listing in iTunes

iTunes has started filing tracks by bands called "The ..." under T rather than under (say) B for The Beatles. This has happened only recently and hasn't followed any upgrade to the version. It only seems to apply to tracks downloaded from the store because, perversely, content from elsewhere (aka. Amazon) still goes into the correct place.

Could anyone provide answers to the following: (a) what's going on? (b) how do I (cani stop it happening? (c) how to I force iTunes to reorganise itself back into a logical order.

Yours, puzzled. Many thanks for any light you can shed.

Most likely cause is that the Sort Artist / Sort Album Artist field has been set explicitly to "The Beatles". This will show in Get Info, Sorting tab - you would normally expect the sort value to be "Beatles" and rendered in grey to indicate that it is an iTunes generated value. If you don't see this, just delete the incorrect Sort values to restore the correct behavior.

If not, then something has happened to change iTunes behavior with respect to auto-generated sort values - this could be the result of iTunes' language setting being something other than English, or the configuration file that determines the language-specific behavior having been modified or corrupted. Use Edit > Preferences > General to reset language, or in Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features to repair iTunes and restore the configuration file.
