Q: iPhoto album/book missing (OS X Yosemite)

So.. I want to start out by saying that I'm pretty sure I'm screwed, and I don't believe there is a solution to my issue... but this album/book was very important to me and I don't have the copy I had ordered.. so I'm reaching out in a desperate plea for help.

I had ordered an album/book that I created in iPhoto over a year ago. I wished to reorder the same album and upon opening iPhoto discovered that all my photos had disappeared (from iPhoto not the computer)! First thing I tried was to request a duplicate order with my apple id.. surely apple would be able to reorder .. not a chance, my order was placed over 30 days ago so it's out of the question.

After searching through apple support and finding solutions that helped others in the same situation; I tried to restore my library. - No luck, I'm the "new to apple" idiot that didn't set up Time Machine! I did however get a new WD My Passport hard drive that I installed since I had last been in iPhoto... but I hadn't backed up my photos yet!

Once I exhausted all efforts of restoring my iPhoto library and albums I tried updating my app..no luck! Then following another discussion (one girl found that doing the system upgrade worked) I decided to upgrade to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.

Now my iPhoto icon is gone, I have the Photos app instead.. The iPhoto Library file is now a "Migrated Photo Library" file and I don't think there is any hope in getting this book back!

I have barely any photos in Photos now (900) and when I tried to import all the photos that I could've use in the book I get an error "Insufficient disk space" (There is not enough free space on your Photo Library volume to import the selected items..)

The iPhoto icon is probably just gone from the Dock.

Look into your Applications folder.   If iPhoto is there, drag the icon to the Dock and launch iPhoto.

You may get a warning the library has been migrated, but confirm, to open iPhoto, see:  If Photos won't open a library that you already migrated - Apple Support

In case the iPhoto icon will appear as crossed out, you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1,

See this user tip how to  update iPhoto:   Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities

The icon is gone from the Dock, but iPhoto is still in your Applications folder and you can continue to use it with your iPhoto Library.

If your images are gone from iPhoto, but you still have them on your computer, then import them into iPhoto and recreate the photo Book. I suspect that your iPhoto was set up to use a "referenced" library. If you, intentionally or inadvertentl, moved your images or the folder they're in, iPhoto lost track of them. I strongly advise for you to change your preferences to consolidate (move/copy) all your images into the iPhoto Library.

You should also check if you have multiple iPhoto Libraries. Once you restore iPhoto to a better state, move the new Photos Library to the Tradh (don't yet empty it) and try a fresh Photos migration.

Check your trash bin. That is where I found my iPhoto and I am pretty good about emptying it, so I was wondering what could be in there. I was baffled when it was all of iPhoto! and JUST iPhoto after the last upgrade. Hurry and check before your trash deletes. This is also why I don't let my trash delete itself I put the date as far out as I could and I check it often, because at times, after updates...they sneak that date up to 24 hours. I've seen it at a month and a week also.
