using the calendar for birthdays

This is my first apple product and I am trying to add dates to the calendar including birthdays.

Is there link that can show me how

Add birthdays to the persons contact card, they will show up on the calendar.

thank you for the help. Does this mean that I will have to add everyone to My Contacts and put their birthdate in first

It's the best way, and it's the recommended way. But you don't have to, just put them, one by one, on the calendar as events. Set them to recur (otherwise you will have to do it every year)
