Flatbed Scanning on MiniMac Intel

Could anyone recommed an inexpensive flatbed scanner for this platform that is universal binary compatible?
I have an HP scanjet 3970 for which the latest software version 8.4 absolutely will not work. Got specifice instructions from the nice people at HP tech and did exactly what they said. Was able to scan one document to email and then HP ScanPro freezes, cannot be forced to quit, and only will go away with restart. Upon restarting, the mouse pointer freezes.
The people at HP seem oblivious to universal binary.

Thanks,

Richard Davis

I don't know, I've got 3 of the most recent 'buy a computer and get a printer' printers w/ integrated scanners laying about that I haven't checked out yet. I don't really mind going through them since I already opened the boxes if need be. I've got a couple of HP printers hooked up w/ scanners and I know one of them is working (can't live w/o at least one). Adding another scanner just isn't at the top of the list once you have one working.

I would really try vuescan (sp?) if I were you. Free trial can't hurt. To be honest, I've noticed the quality of HP drivers varies tremendously. It's almost seasonal. Winter terrible, Spring Great, Summer Something Doesn't Work.

Reseting the whole print setup, deleting all your printers, and re-adding them is probably the best way to go.

Which version software are they telling you to use?

Good Luck,
