How do I make a Yosemite backup start disk

You can use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner. I use both.


Carbon Copy Cloner is not free but will create a boot drive with the recovery partition. It also allows for incremental backups so that is will be as current at the last update. If the internal HDD fails, you can swap the CCC drive into the Mac an be back in business immediately. It is well worth the price.
