Q: will deleting iPhoto delete my pictures if they're in Photos?

want to clear up some space and omni disk cleaner is telling me that iPhoto is taking up the most space. if i delete iPhoto, will my pictures also delete even if they're in the new Photos app?

No - there is no connection between iphoto and Photos libraries - you can delete either with no effect on the other

However it probably will not save much disk space wince Photos and iPhoto use hard links to share access to the photos so little space is used by having both libraries available - see Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

and be VERY careful using any cleaner program including Omni Disk Cleaner - they are very dangerous and do not understand database systems like iphoto and Photos and often cause major problems with photos and even the system by deleting the wrong things - best not to use them at all

thanks for your input! what would you suggest to clear up space then? i specifically need the "other" section cleared. i've googled the question numerous times and I've done everything they all say but nothing changes. can you help with that?
