Can the Apple Watch be worn during yoga? Specifically hot yoga. And does the iPhone need to be nearby to record heart rate, etc?q

I am interested in how effective the watch is during a yoga class. Specifically hot yoga. Being water resistant should help with the sweat; but does the iPhone need to be within a certain distance to record results?

Hi

Apple Watch should not be worn during hot yoga.

Whilst Other would be the most appropriate activity type for recording regular yoga using the Workout app, wearing your watch during hot yoga (which is performed in hot and humid conditions) would fall outside of Apple's handling guidelines for your Apple Watch.

Apple's advises that:

  • Apple Watch is designed for use in ambient temperatures between 32° and 95° F (0° and 35° C).

Your watch can be damaged and battery life shortened if used outside of this range.

  • You should avoid exposing your watch to dramatic changes in temperature or humidity.
  • Examples of usage that may affect the water resistance of your watch and should be avoided include wearing it in a sauna or steam room.

Note that using your watch outside of Apple's handling guidelines may render your watch ineligible for service under warranty, AppleCare+ and/or chargeable repair service.
