Thunderbolt Display and full screen

Hey all. I'm using a Thunderbolt Display with my 2014 15 inch Macbook Pro. The OS is Yosemite.

If I go fullscreen with a Youtube video on the macbook screen it'll do it on that screen, but the Thunderbolt screen will just go black. How do I make the monitors independent from each other so that they can be used in full screen mode individually?

Thanks.

Do you have your Thunderbolt Display configured as a 2nd Monitor in System Prefs>Displays?

If you wish to use your Thunderbolt Display as primary you must close the lid when Thunderbolt Display is connected, this puts your Macbook display to sleep. The lid closed you would need an external keyboard Wireless or USB and a Magic Mouse or Trackpad. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Thanks for replying but that's not what I want to do. the Thunderbolt Display is always the main screen when connected, regardless of the lid being open or close on the MacBook.

When I have both screens on, MacBook and Thunderbolt Display, I want to be able to play a YouTube video in full screen on the MacBook Pro, and be able to continue working in Logic or using safari or whatever on the Thunderbolt Display. Currently it will go full screen on the MacBook Pro and make the Thunderbolt go to a black screen and not let me see what's on it unless I remove full screen mode on the other screen. It's the same if I do it the other way round.

I want to be able to hit the full screen button on one screen and not make it render the other screen useless.

Thanks 🙂

This is all I could find to try and help. Use the links to see if these methods may help. There is more info if you Google: using dual display with macbook pro. Hope this gets you closer in the ball park. I have a Mac Mini with a DVI port and I'm only using the Thunderbolt port for my 27" Thunderbolt Display. Hopefully these links will help you. Cheers!

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately that's not what I was asking for. Those links talk about connecting them, I have them connected. Although I appreciate you taking the time to have a look.

2 monitors, connected in unison, but able to make videos full screen only on the screen that the window is open on.

I don't get how no one knows if this can even be done or not.
