Q: time capsule connection failed

My time capsule connection is showing as failed. This has happened before and was solved by unplugging the capsule, waiting for twenty or so seconds and plugging it back in. However, this isn't working now. Any suggestions, please? I bought the time capsule at the same time as my iMac, in May 2013.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Thanks Mike, for your help. Currently the Time Capsule has connected itself again - don't ask me how or why! However, I will follow your advice if it disconnects again
