WPKG redirect, WPKG redirect virus

Mac OSX 10.9.5

Recently my chrome has started redirecting to wpkg.org for most websites, and there is no back button. I have heard of this wpkg redirect virus on windows and know software that can remove it, however on a mac, my anti-virus cannot detect the virus and i can't remove it. Are there any solutions? manual removal? thanks

MacBook Pro, Other OS, No OS installed

Hi,

I have been having this problem all morning. I have found a fix here: http://www.reddit.com/r/China/comments/33wpk3/anyone_else_almost_all_websites_in _both_chrome

Check out like45ninjas' response. Use an Adblocker extension in your web browser and block the following urls:

http://wpkg.org/my.js

http://www.ptraveler.com/pt.js

I recommend clearing your browser cache and restarting your Mac before checking if it is fixed.

Has worked for me so far.

Hi,

I experienced the same problem on my Ipad. While I have solved it on my PC (not Mac) by using adblock, I am not too sure how to do with my Ipad. Could we find the adblock App for Ipad - and in that case which App should we download and then how it works to block the links above with Ipad?

If anyone has a solution that would be great!

Thanks!

Hi,

Yep I am now getting the same problem on my iPhone and iPad when using the Safari web browser. However I can't fix this as safari doesn't allow third party adblockers.

Although now I did the above with my Mac through Google Chrome, my iPad and iPhone works fine when I use Chrome on those devices too. Maybe it's because I'm signed into Chrome on all three devices?

My advice is to Switch to google chrome, do the above with an adblocker extension on your computer, then use chrome on iPhine and iPad too. Annoying if you have to switch browsers but can't do much else until Apple fixes this for safari internally.

BTW, I'm living in china and it seems this issue is pretty much exclusive to us here. How about you?

This isn't something that Apple can do anything about, because it's not a problem with anything relating to the computer or the system... it's a network issue.

I'm very interested in finding out whether this problem is still ongoing, and if it stops. All those reading, please keep us updated! The question in my mind is, is this state-sponsored, or is this the work of some clever hackers who may or may not even be in China? How long it lasts will be very telling.
