I am signed in but iTunes keeps asking me to sign in!

I am signed in to iTunes. Every time I open iTunes it asks me to sign in. I press 'cancel' - it asks again, and again. Why? How do I stop it?

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)
