Problem with iPhoto and Finder

When I download a photo to iPhoto, the file is now also saved twice in Finder, one file with a _1024 filename extension, which is also a much bigger file size. Why is this happening? Only noticed it today, The file with the _1024 extension on it as about 3 or 4 times the size as the other.

Thank-you for the reply. When I download a photo from the internet, I normally only view it and do what I need to with it through iPhoto. Never looked in Finder as no need to. I just happened to be looking for a file through Finder and saw the duplicates of my photos in there. Only happens tp photos I save to iPhoto. Just wasn't sure why. Also seemed odd the duplicate files were a different file size. What extra detail do you need me to provide? Not sure what else would help with this query?

Again you simply should not be inside the iphoto library - the way iPhoto works is that it always keeps the original and records all edits in the database, it creates a preview for use by other programs and a thumbnail for quick display so you have three version (no duplicates - different versions) of every photos

That is probably what you are seeing and it is the way things work
