slow performance

hi i have a macbook pro 2014 and imac 2011. both with same internet and same location for forking in my office. my macbook is fast internet browsing and also for downloading and multimedia BUT i am suffering with my iMac. i have to several times re-start it, close programmes and re-open them, but agin cannot open even simple pages on internet. also when i want to open and work with few pages or apps together, is very slow and boring me!

please advice what is the problem?

what is the solution? (needs more ram, deleting particular app, etc?)

kind regards

Thanks for posting your report! The most critical item I see is your 2011 21.5" iMac does not have enough RAM. It has the original 4GB of RAM that it was originally shipped with. A 2011 iMac can accommodate up to 32GB of RAM. When the computer was originally shipped 4GB was adequate for Snow Leopard, however you have upgraded to Yosemite which uses more system resources, i.e. RAM. While Yosemite will run with 4GB, to get the best user experience it should have more. My recommendation would be to upgrade the RAM up to 12 or 16GB. If you choose to do this only purchase RAM from reliable sources such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial. iMacs are sensitive to RAM and it's critical to buy high quality RAM for them.

Good luck.

Stop using and uninstall ALL Googlewares. They are ALL a serious resource hogs on the OS X system.

You'll also eliminate Google mining your data.

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95319?hl=en

Also, remove the app link from your user login/startup items.

If you do not like Apple's Safari web browser, download, install and try Mozilla FireFox, instead.

The current, up-to-date version of FireFox is fully compatible with OS X and is regularly updated by the great developers of the Mozilla group.

I have, also, stopped using the Google search engine regularly (due to Google's privacy policies or lack thereof) and I now use DuckDuckGo as my default search engine.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
