Apple Watch doesn't connect to WiFi

Hi there,

as a matter of fact my Apple watch does not make any connections using WiFi. Neither to my paired iPhone 6 + nor to my Router at home, which is of course well known to my iPhone. When i turn Wifi off on the iPhone, Apple Watch indicates the loss of connection. Sending iMessages for example is not possible any more. According to what i've learned from the manual and from articles in the internet, it should be able to use WiFi anyway if the bluetooth range is exceeded or even anavailable. Anybody who has an idea?

I found removing the network from my iPhone and then re-instating it got it to work for me. I can make calls with the Watch over Wifi when the iPhone is out of BT range.

Hi,

I have had this problem since Friday and have been on to Apple support (Message Chat) with no answers as yet.

Annoyingly it would connect via Wi-Fi at two other locations using a BT home hub 4 but not at home using an Apple Time Capsule (You would think it would be the other way around).

Eventually I deleted the Wi-Fi setting for my Time Capsule with my iPhone and reconnected the Wi-Fi with the Watch still connected via Bluetooth and the watch now connects perfectly via Wi-Fi. I can now turn Bluetooth off and Siri, iMessage an Ping iPhone still works 🙂

Thanks goest to rowanyarn and Vmax8.

I have AirPort Time Capsule with 5kHz and with 2.4kHz enabled at the same time with the same SSID (Wi-Fi network name).

I also had a problem when my Apple Watch S2 didn't see my Wi-Fi network while my iPhone 6S Plus was connected to AirPort Time Capsule with 5kHz.

Steps are:

  • Bluetooth has to be On on iPhone and Watch has to be paired via Bluetooth.
  • Use "Forget this Network".
  • Add your Wi-Fi Network again.
  • Switch Bluetooth OFF on iPhone.
  • After that Watch must switch to Wi-Fi network.

IMPORTANT!

While investigating this problem I found out that it can help you if you will Reserve a DHCP address for your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Read more here: AirPort Utility 6.x: Reserve a DHCP address for client computers (https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22783?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US)

You have to add MAC + IP addresses for your iPhone and Watch in that section.

After that repeat those steps above.

This has to fix Apple Watch connection to you Wi-Fi network 100%!
