i can not sign in in the itunes

Application downloads from the AppStore have stopped working. When I try to download an application (e.g. update Youtube) it asks for my iTunes password, seems to recognize it (it doesn't say it's incorrect), but after a brief moment it asks for the password again. There is no way out of that loop!
