Q: Apple Watch Sport screen scratched?

After 2 days of normal use and looking after my watch better than my own child I have found that when in direct sunlight i can see what appears to be a hairline scratch directly down the centre of the face. I just cannot understand why this has happened? nothing has bumped or came into contact weigh the face other than my finger, even at night when its on charge i placed it in an old pillow case until I can get a stand? Im very meticulous about looking after my products and find this very unsettling that its happened after 2 days. Its really distracting when I'm outside as the scratch scathes the light constantly.

Im sure if I go into the store I will basically be told its my own fault but what do you think my options are? is it possible that this was on the screen before I got it?

Just would like to know if anyone else has had this issue?

Cheers

I've always wondered why companies like Apple, Samsung, etc, don't apply some form of screen protector at the factory - in the lab conditions they have, with the equipment they have, they could get it on with no bubbles, etc.

Because screen protectors change the feel of the screen and its vibrancy. It would add to the cost of the device and be extremely annoying to those of us who don't use them.

First of all, It's impossible for it to have come from the factory with the scratch on the screen.  It doesn't happen.

Remember the iPhone 5's being scratched at the factory?

I've only ever used screen protectors on one of my iPhones. It was horrible.

So - iPhones, cameras, whatever, I don't use them and I believe that, for a touch-sensitive device like the watch, they're a problem.

As things are, I don't have to have one but, if you prefer to have one, you can.

I haven't got any scratches on may Watch, and I haven't taken any special measures to protect it. My phone. now 6 months old, the same

Even the AppleCare Support people say that the watch face shouldn't be scratching as easily as people are reporting. They all state that the glass on the sport watch is supposed to be similar to an iPhone screen. They are surprised to hear the number of cases reported online of sport watch screens scratching with normal use and no abrasions. I had mine for 12 hours, no bumps, no knocks, no impact whatsoever, and I wound up with a "superficial" scratch across the entire face of the watch just from my finger.

    Update on my watch.

I will have a BRAND NEW watch face arriving tomorrow with a new serial #.  I'm putting a screen protector on it, even if it is a watch.  I don't want to have to deal with this again.  The timeline went like this:

    Thurs-Box Received

    Fri- Shipped to Apple

Mon- Apple looked at product.  They got the package Saturday, but it was only deliver on weekdays.

    Tues- New watch shipped

Wed- Watch will be in my hands.

Good luck!  If you aren't happy, let them know.  Go without your watch for 3-5 days, and get a new one!

I had a similar issue with the scratching, they are having me send in my old one to be swapped out as well. (Apple Watch Sport 42mm White Band)

Quick question to those who had the same experience: how quickly did you receive your new watch and what did you send them as the return? I got an email from Apple stating that I needed to return everything, cord, documentation, Apple Watch, etc. I forgot one of the bands (the extra one) and the charging puck, do you think this will be an issue? (it should be noted that the email was automatic and not in reference to them receiving my watch as it is still in transit.)

    Thank you!

They told me don't send the bands as I won't get them back.  No documentation, just the face of the watch.

So I received my replacement watch at the Apple Store yesterday. Upon removing the watch from the box, I performed an initial visual inspection and the watch had scratches on it out of the box. one scuff on the housing, and an actual cut into the aluminum under the side of the glass. I had the geniuses that were standing there inspect my assessment and they performed a more thorough visual inspection and verified that the watch itself was damaged prior to leaving the depot. They also inspected my bands because I mentioned that they were loose in the replacement watch. They transferred my bands to their demo model and the bands were snug as a bug in a rug. They deemed my replacement unsatisfactory and now I'm waiting another week for another replacement watch.

That's weird. I called Apple and they told me that I should include "as much as I can" as I will be receiving "a new/full package.". Sorry to hear you have to wait longer. That's unacceptable.

My stainless steel apple watch with a sapphire display is also scratched! Very disappointing especially since they touted the superior hardness of the sapphire screen! In fact, it's the reason I opted to spend an extra $200 bucks instead of getting the sport model. I contacted Apple, and they said they would talk with their engineers and see what they could do for me!

that is why i got the saphirre glass. because glass can scratch easier.

although oddly enough i found a small hairline scratch on my sapphire display which is even crazier. so i might have to let them know. maybe it came like that from factory because i didn't hit anything sharp like a diamond etc.

I checked today I have a scratch broken into two parts. One part is deeper, shorter scratch. The other part is longer, hair line. But this appear to be from the same scratch event.

I then checked my iPhone 6. It does have a few hair line scratches, but given that I have had the iPhone 6 for over half a year, Apple watch sport appears to be less durable. I am not satisfied, but I am not sure I should replace it or just return it.

In my opinion, at this price range, Apple should not have a glass cover watch at all. The aluminum case is quite durable compared to stainless steel, but the screen is less durable. Effectively Apple has NO model that is very durable: either the screen or body will scratch. But I think it is worse for the screen to scratch. Maybe this is their upsell strategy.

I am one of the owners who had their watch on 4/23.  I have worn it everyday since and don't have a scratch on the face, knock on wood.  However, on the back glass where charger is connected I can see some fine scratches, barely noticible.

After owning four different models of the iPhone, I never managed to scratch the screen.  The frame is a different matter. Even with a case on, they seem to somehow end up with various small nicks.

I received my 42mm Space Gray Sport Apple Watch on May 1. After having the watch just two days, I had a nick in the alumnium case and a noticeable scratch on the screen.  Needless to say, it was quite the buzzkill on my new toy.

Apple agreed to send me a new one (and very quickly). So I'm giving it another shot.  However, I'm not going to wear it until my third-pary screen protector and bumper arrive and are installed.

actually when i got my first mac book (air) i got in in apple store and right out of the original package wrapped in plastic and all, it was dented and they took it back right away and gave me a new one, so yes apple products sometimes do come with imperfections in things like the body or screen
