Q: Apple Watch Sport screen scratched?

After 2 days of normal use and looking after my watch better than my own child I have found that when in direct sunlight i can see what appears to be a hairline scratch directly down the centre of the face. I just cannot understand why this has happened? nothing has bumped or came into contact weigh the face other than my finger, even at night when its on charge i placed it in an old pillow case until I can get a stand? Im very meticulous about looking after my products and find this very unsettling that its happened after 2 days. Its really distracting when I'm outside as the scratch scathes the light constantly.

Im sure if I go into the store I will basically be told its my own fault but what do you think my options are? is it possible that this was on the screen before I got it?

Just would like to know if anyone else has had this issue?

Cheers

I lightly (emphasis on lightly) bumped my watch against my wooden countertop and it scratched in the corner. I was literally amazed at how softly I bumped it and how a scratch possible could have been formed already. Guess I should have shelled our more to get the normal watch with the Sapphire screen :/

I've bumped my iPhone and iPad much harder against granite and nothing. Pretty disappointing,

Another Watch owner here... I've had it for less than 48 hours and already have light scuffing on it.  It *****.  I bought AppleCare but I'm planning on returning it altogether.  A $500 product should be more durable that this.

My Apple Watch Sport developed two "micro scratches" just a couple of days after it arrived. All I'd done was wear it on my wrist and hadn't come into contact with anything.

I thought I could live with them, but the more I use it the more I notice at least one of them, especially in bright sunlight. So I phoned up this morning and the adviser was more than happy to process a return for a replacement. Once I've had the parcel scanned into the UPS system, my replacement watch will be marked as expedited and should be here within a week.

Part of me thinks that if the screen is this susceptible to scratches, I should just go for the more expensive model. But the body of that scratches, albeit that's rectifiable.  A watch with the sport casing and sapphire screen would be ideal.

I'm not a fan of screen protectors, but perhaps this is one device that needs it. That was my logic for taking out AppleCare+ when I don't normally.

No scratches yet but after one week of use it has already developed 3 little white marks on the border between the glass and the aluminium. If I didn't know better I would say it looks like paint has chipped off. This is very disappointing. It's not as if I've been banging it against anything. See the photo below of the 2 on the bottom left. There is another on the upper right side. Anyone else have this?FullSizeRender.jpg

After nearly two months of daily wear, my Space Gray Sport 38mm today has a scratch on the curved part of the glass deep enough to catch my fingernail in. I think it happened as I was plugging in a Thunderbolt dock behind my MacBook Pro. I heard a slight "snick" sound as my watch face lightly touched the aluminum case of the MacBook. When I examined the watch, lo and behold is its first scratch since receiving the timepiece. The scratch is on the upper right rounded corner of the glass, and it is deep enough to catch a fingernail in.

Very sad, but could be worse. I realize I didn't buy the sapphire screen. My priorities were comfort, and I liked that matte gray finish with black band. I figured I would pop for the fancier version on the next model, whenever that may be. What I was expecting was a slow accumulation of hairline scratches over time, like my iPhone, not micro-scale lunar canals.

I'll give Apple a call, just on the off chance.

I too have found a mysterious scratch on my 42mm Apple sports watch, after a bit of time on the phone to the support team I was told to make an appointment in store to see if it can be polished or repaired.

Not happy after everything I saw online about the resistance of the screen, will update when I know what they are going to do.

I now have my new watch and so far there's no scratches. Here's hoping it stays that way.

I've been wracking my brains trying to think where the scratches came from because I was super-careful with it. Other than it having arrived like that, the only other possibility I can think of is something we probably don't give much thought to - airport security.

I flew overseas the day after my watch arrived and obviously had to take it off and put it in the tray with my phone etc. But the other side of the scanner had those hard rubber flaps which brush over anything in the trays. I'm wondering if one brushed over my watch leaving two perfectly parallel scratches.

After at least a month of using mine, sadly I have developed a small scratch on the upper right corner of the watch. I have found something that helps with the scratch but does not fix it. It will make it less noticeable and made mine only be seen when shining a bright light on it. What you need to do is get some toothpaste and rub it on the scratch. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off. (I know it's very simple, don't judge. Haha.) Anyway, it should make the scratch less noticeable. It did for me. Here is a before and after of my watch. (Space Gray 38mm Sport).IMG_0050.jpgIMG_0055.jpg

I called Apple Support Sunday night about a very small (but admittedly dissapointing) scratch in my new Watch Sport face (after figuring out which department I need to go to I spoke immediately to a real person, no phone tree, no south Asian rep by the name of “Greg”). By Tuesday morning first thing I had a Fedex overnight package to send it back in, which I did same day. Yesterday I’m told that I’ll receive my new Apple Watch in two days return post. It was delivered today at 11am, less than 42 hours after I dropped it at Fedex. Pretty amazing that they exchanged it at all considering the minor complaint, let alone in less than three days, especially without me having to go into a store.

I had the same problem after wearing the watch for 1.5 days. I sit in an office all day and did not bump, drop or brush up against anything. I did not take the watch off and put it in a pocket or purse; nothing to merit the scratch on the watch face.  I called apple support and they told me to bring it to the apple store and ask for an exchange. The phone support person also suggested I get a screen protector for the new watch which leads me to believe this is a common issue.

Apple store exchanged the watch for me with a brand new watch, no questions asked. The store also suggested I get a screen protector despite the fact that there are no products currently available with the apple seal of approval. Again, they must know it's an issue.

The watch is very cool and I'm enjoying wearing it now that I have a screen protector on it and am not afraid of  it scratching. $500 (with apple care) is a lot of money to spend on something that is scratched so easily. I have cheap watches that are less scratch prone than the apple watch appears to be.

I have literally taken my watch out of its brand new box twice and seen these little paint chips! I though it was just me doing something the first time! On my third watch and waiting for it to be replaced - so annoying!

I dont understand how Apple can be to blame for damage that was caused after it was opened.  Watches dont scratches themselves.  It has to come in contact with something else to cause the scratch.

Welcome to the world of OCD where things become scratched all by themselves, no human action required. Every Apple product gets the same scrutiny from this crowd. A screw head whose slot isn’t pointing the same way as the others is declared a design fault and worth of obsessive ranting over quality.

This might be the craziest thread I've ever seen.  Things just don't scratch themselves.  Unreal.

I purchased a Zagg HD screen protector for my Apple Watch sport. It completely hides the existing scratch, and you almost can't see the protector at all. It wraps around the curved edges and is staying put. Highly recommended for Sport owners concerned about scratches.
