I cannot start up my MacBook Pro. I push the power button and I hear a start up noise and then nothing happens. The screen remains black. I have tried starting and restarting but nothing changes. Can you help me?

I went in to the Apple store for a genius appointment. They showed me how to clear the black screen by:
Pressing the "Option, Command, "r" and "p" keys at the same time as the Power Button.
This cleared it up for me. Thank you for your advice.
